The Special Investigations Unit have now launched an anti-scam campaign which sees people conducting these activities being brought to light and reported to relevant authorities. The campaign, which has since begun on the social media platform TikTok, is already proving to be a huge success. On the 07/06/2025, we helped to have the media giant remove a profile that was not only seen to be scamming, but also horrendous bullying. The operation, titled ‘Operation Silence’, worked alongside other platform users to help mass report the profile, which forced the media giant to take action. A small victory, but one that proves that with hard work, these people can be removed.
The SIU, working closely with the Creative Production Unit (CPU), used a TikTok character that was created by the CPU, and known on the platform of TikTok as The Nun, was used to highlight the accounts scamming and bullying, and to much success. The following statement was given by the Chief Executive.
“We were made aware of accounts that were openly scamming and bullying others with some users even deceiving the benefits system. What these users need to realise is that we collect all evidence and send them off to relevant agencies and authorities to ensure that action is taken against them. The use of our online character The Nun has also proven useful to help make people aware. We will not rest until action is taken against these people.”
Moving forward, the SIU confirmed that this campaign will remain in place on a permanent basis to ensure that platform users can feel safe using their favourite social media platforms without being bullied or scammed.
You can also report anyone who you think is scamming or bullying by CLICKING HERE and sending in a report. This will then be sent to the SIU for investigation and action will be taken.
