It has now been confirmed that the ASU will in fact be undertaking new services from January 2027 as plans for its expansion were approved.
It was reported that considerations were being made as to whether or not to re-introduce its former services for cyber bullying & harassment and was yesterday given the green light to go ahead. The deliberation however was to see which unit would be best suited to undertake these new services and the ASU was appointed.
In addition to that, the ASU will also undertake reports of animal cruelty as reports have been soaring across social media. This move comes after the ASU team were investigating a known scammer when a video surfaced online of the scammer assaulting his dog which resulted in the dog being removed, however just days later, the dog was returned after it was confirmed that no internal or external injuries were visible and that the dog was of healthy condition at that time. The ASU team have since appealed this decision.
As mentioned, the services will not be active until January 2027 as plans are currently in place to increase the team once again as cases continue to pour in. As part of the the units services, weekly awareness shows are granted on social media to help raise the seriousness of being scammed and the latest developments.
