It was discovered a short while ago that a member of the Bureau was subjected to unsolicited messages which had been received through a social messaging app. It was reported after the discovery of the messages which was sent from someone who was at the time a part of a TikTok agency. It was also discovered that two or more males also received similar unsolicited messages.
The Bureau took swift action and contacted the agency to which the evidence was then sent in. The agency took some action on their part by removing the person from the agency itself. It is understood that all persons involved did not entice these kinds of messages.
The Bureau took the decision to block the person in question from all social media accounts as a preventive measure. It is not known at this stage whether the Bureau will take further action but a statement from the board has been produced below.
“We do condone any form of unsolicited messages being sent to any member of the Bureau. We took swift action by reaching out to the agency to report the matter which is when we discovered this had happened to at least two other people. Whilst the agency took action to remove said person from its network, we certainly would encourage a better vetting system when onboarding new agency members. As of this moment, we have not concluded whether or not further action will be taken.”
The Bureau also discovered during the internal investigation that two of its social media accounts had also been compromised, which has since been rectified. Extra security was added and a separate statement was issued.
“During our investigation, we had discovered that our TikTok and Facebook accounts had become compromised, and we urge anyone that has received any messages from these accounts to report it directly to us so we can access any potential impact.”
The Bureau will continue to access any potential risks due to the compromise.
