The International Bureau of Paranormal Investigations and Research was founded in Kent, England back in 1998 by a team of paranormal enthusiasts who were accidentally involved in one of the most bizarre cases to date, and it was because of this that the team set up the Bureau with the sole directive of conducting and researching investigations into the paranormal phenomena.
Leading the way into the research of the paranormal, which refers to occurrences that are beyond scientific comprehension, the study of parapsychology was later introduced in 2006, which refers to the study of mental phenomena such as telepathy. This meant that by combining the two, it would give a greater understanding into the worldwide phenomena.
The Bureau is led with a scientific view to ensure all rational explanations are explored using the correct methods in order to provide clear and precise information, and as such, could help us to understand the paranormal phenomena in more detail. All scientific methods are explored before any conclusion is met.
The Bureau consists of seven units which are each designed to separate specific areas of investigation to ensure that the correct unit is conducting such investigations.

All units consist of Special Agents who are highly trained within their designated units and fully licensed by us to ensure they provide a high level of standard when delivering a service.
As a Bureau, we work with relevant authorities to ensure that any activity that is reported to us, may be passed on in accordance with our regulations. We are however fully independent and are not run nor regulated by any governing bodies.

The International Bureau of Paranormal Investigation and Research exists to serve the public through rigorous, independent, and scientifically grounded investigation of the unexplained and the unresolved. We are committed to examining claims of the paranormal with the same standards of evidence, methodology, and critical analysis expected of any serious scientific inquiry—documenting phenomena carefully, testing explanations thoroughly, and remaining guided solely by what the data can support rather than by preconceived belief or sensationalism.
Our work extends across a broad and interconnected range of disciplines. In ufology, we investigate reports of unidentified aerial phenomena with disciplined observation and analysis. In cryptozoology, we pursue credible examination of reported unknown animals and biological anomalies. In parallel, we apply professional investigative methods to missing persons cases, long-unresolved cold cases, the exposure of scams and those who perpetrate them, and private investigations undertaken on behalf of individuals and families seeking clarity or justice.
Across every field of inquiry, our purpose remains constant: to pursue verifiable truth, to challenge deception and unfounded claims, and to bring greater understanding where mystery, uncertainty, or harm has taken root. We recognize that some questions may remain unanswered, yet we refuse to abandon the tools of reason, evidence, and careful investigation in the face of the unknown. By combining scientific rigor with practical investigative skill, the International Bureau of Paranormal Investigation and Research strives to illuminate both the extraordinary and the ordinary, to support those in need of answers, and to contribute to a more informed and discerning public.
Since 1998, we have investigated hundreds of cases involving a variety of areas, and where possible, we share that information with the public. Here are our most notable moments over the years.
- 1998 The Bureau is born after a bizarre incident which involved our first known shadow person within the area.
- 1999 Investigations began into Kent’s most famous Cryptid, the black cat.
- 2000 The first report of an apparitional vessel off the Kent coast was investigated.
- 2001 Folklore was introduced as an investigative area.
- 2002 The Bureau began to officially investigate UAP activity.
- 2003 A designated UAP investigative team was introduced due to the level of reports.
- 2004 Four investigators witness a full body apparition.
- 2005 Two investigators report a UAP sighting as witnesses.
- 2006 The Bureau expanded its operations to wider parts of the UK.
- 2007 Investigation into occult legend Alister Crowley was suspended after a major incident and was never reopened.
- 2008 An unknown Cryptid was captured on camera during a routine investigation. The footage was later stolen and never returned.
- 2009 Four agents report a UAP sighting whilst on a training excercise.
- 2010 Reports of a demonic entity were investigated and was later concluded officially as a poltergeist.
- 2011 Agent reports possession of a colleague during an investigation.
- 2012 Investigation into a violent entity begins.
- 2013 The 2012 investigation into the violent entity was deemed as demonic and was suspended due to the serious risk of harm.
- 2014 Two agents submit report after witnessing a meteorite close to earths atmosphere.
- 2015 Introduction of radio communication was made mandatory during physical investigations.
- 2016 EVP session captures a short conversation.
- 2017 Introduces new safety regulation for agents investigating entities.
- 2018 EVP session captures a passing spirit.
- 2019 Bureau introduces plans for international expansion.
- 2020 International status is confirmed.
- 2021 Introduction of uniforms was confirmed.
- 2022 Worldwide reports of a dark entity known as The Hatman was investigated but later suspended.
- 2023 Report of a hybrid Cryptid was investigated and still ongoing.
- 2024 Bureau undergoes massive transition.
- 2025 Case of the shark mutilations.
